From the meandering Main to the UNESCO-designated Upper Middle Rhine Valley with its multitude of castles dotting its shores to the vineyard-clad hills of the Moselle, enjoy Europe at its most picturesque. Let the storybook villages?Bernkastel, Cochem and Wertheim?captivate you; and Rothenburg, located on the Romantic Road enchant you. Marvel at the world's largest ceiling fresco in the W?rzburg Residenz, a UNESCO World Heritage Site; and the beautiful Chagall windows while in Mainz. Savor the many flavors of Germany with a chance to sample the world-famous wines of the Rheingau, the hearty smoked beer of Bamberg and R?desheim?s famed coffee. All along the way, gain an intimate understanding of the history and culture of the places you visit.

 

Day 1 ARRIVE PRAGUE

Take the balance of the day to relax or explore on your own.

Day 2 PRAGUE

Discover fairytale Prague via a city tour or a hike. Both will reveal why Prague is considered one of Europe's most attractive and vibrant cities, with a historic city center that's recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. (B)

Day 3 PRAGUE

Enjoy uninterrupted time to explore Prague and its many museums and landmarks at your leisure. Visit such sites as St. Vitus Cathedral, the Gothic resting place of numerous saints, or the Franz Kafka Museum, which houses first editions of several of the prolific author's works. You may also see the historic fort Vysehrad, explore the natural science and history collections at the Narodni Museum or travel back through Jewish history at the Holocaust memorial in the former ghetto at Josefov. Day 4 PRAGUE - NUREMBERG, GERMANY - EMBARKATION

After breakfast, depart Prague and drive through the pastoral countryside to Nuremberg, the capital of Franconia. Enjoy a panoramic tour of Nuremberg, with its fabulous Gothic churches and elegant impressive walls. See the infamous Zeppelin field used to hold rallies and the Justice Palace where the War Crimes Tribunal sat in 1946 (when available). Late this afternoon embark the ship, where you will meet your fellow passengers at the Gala Welcome Dinner. The ship departs in the late evening. (B,D)

Day 5 BAMBERG

Bamberg has been referred to as “Franconian Rome” as, like Rome, it was built on seven hills - but in Bamberg, a church graces each one. Bamberg’s medieval and Baroque architecture has withstood the test of time and, as such, became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Join a guided walking tour of this medieval gem where you’ll see its cathedral, Old Town Hall and elegant old mansions, and afterwards, indulge in the town’s famous smoked beer, Rauchbier. Later, enjoy free time in Volkach. (B,L,D)

Day 6 WÜRZBURG

Go on a full-day excursion to Rothenburg, Germany's best-preserved walled town located on the Romantic Road. Later in the day, and for those not going to Rothenburg, enjoy a city tour of Wurzburg, a bursting with Baroque splendor. Or visit Wurzburg's Baroque Residenz Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that features an opulent interior, including a grand fresco by Tiepolo. (B,L,D)

Day 7 WERTHEIM

Wertheim's old town center still features half-timbered houses and the Gothic architecture of the Stiftskirche, its oldest Protestant church. You may either join a guided walking tour through the historic city center or learn the art of pretzel making with a visit to a local bakery. For those seeking a more active adventure, take a scenic bike ride through the Main River Valley or hike high above the town for a visit to the castle, one of the most picturesque ruins in Germany. Day 8 RÜDESHEIM - RHINE GORGE - LAHNSTEIN

Arrive in Rudesheim, where you can visit Siegfried's Mechanical Musical Instrument Museum, or take a ride over the vineyards of Rudesheim in a gondola to the Niederwald Monument, and then afterwards be treated to a wine tasting. You may also hike through a Rudesheim vineyard. Later in the day, set sail towards Lahnstein through the Rhine River Gorge, famous for its beautiful and imposing castles. Cap the day off with a visit to Lahneck Castle. (B,L,D)

Day 9 COCHEM - ZELL

Wake up in fairytale Cochem and visit the Reichsburg Castle followed by a walking tour. As an alternative, visit one of Europe's oldest working mustard mills where you will sample Cochem's famous mustard. You may also opt to take a guided bike tour along the captivating Moselle River or a hike to Reichsburg Castle. Later, cruise to Zell, famous for its Riesling and the well-known arched black cat icon, often seen on the labels of local German wines. Experience the hospitality of the citizens of Zell, including the local Wine Queen and Mayor, at an exclusive wine festival where you'll sample local wines, sausages and more. (B,L,D)

Day 10 TRIER

Enjoy a scenic cruise along the Moselle to Trier, Germany’s oldest city, renowned for its rich ancient Roman past, and as such has been referred to as the “Rome of the North” or “Second Rome” as it has impressive Roman relics and nine UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Join a guided tour of the city, including the old Roman amphitheater, Roman Baths and Basilica of Constantine. Alternatively, go in search of the secrets of the Porta Nigra Gate, dating back to 180 A.D. on a tour that takes you back to a time when Rome ruled the world from the Emperor’s seat in Trier. You also have the choice of a bike tour through the historic city center and along the Moselle River; or hike high above Trier to Petrisberg. (B,L,D)

Day 11 LUXEMBOURG - DISEMBARKATION - PARIS, FRANCE

Disembark in Luxembourg. En route to Paris, you will stop at the American Cemetery and Memorial, the final resting place of General George Patton. Later, you will enjoy a walking tour through Luxembourg before boarding a TGV high-speed train to Paris, where you will check into your hotel. (B)

Day 12 PARIS

Enjoy a tour of Paris, taking in all its iconic sites, including the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, the Champs-Elysees and Place de la Concorde. You'll pass the magnificent Opera Garnier, the legendary Louvre and, on the Left Bank, the Sorbonne University and the Panthnon. (B)

Day 13 PARIS

Enjoy a visit to Montmartre, long known as the city’s premier artist’s enclave. During the mid to late 1800s, artists also began calling Montmartre home. Pissarro and Jongkind were two of the first to live there. For easy access to Montmartre, you’ll hop aboard the funicular railroad that ascends the hill. Montmartre’s most recognizable landmark is the Basilica du Sacre-Coeur, constructed from 1876 to 1912. The white dome of this Roman Catholic basilica sits at the highest point in the city. After your visit to Montmartre, you’ll be taken on an illumination tour, discovering why Paris is renowned as the “City of Light.” (B)

Transfer to the airport for your homeward flight. (B)

 

Luxembourg to Nuremberg

 

Day 1 ARRIVE PARIS

Arrive in Paris and check-in to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at your leisure. Walk through the city's enchanting streets, drop by a charming sidewalk cafe or visit one of many world class museums.

Day 2 PARIS

Enjoy a tour of Paris, taking in all its iconic sites, including the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, the Champs-Elysees and Place de la Concorde. You'll pass the magnificent Opera Garnier, the legendary Louvre and, on the Left Bank, the Sorbonne University and the Panthnon. (B)

Day 3 PARIS

Check out of your Paris hotel and board your high-speed train to Luxembourg. There you will join a walking tour of the Grand Duchy where you will see the Centre European and Place d'Armes before boarding your ship in Luxembourg. (B,D)

Day 5 TRIER - BERNKASTEL

Trier is Germany’s oldest city, renowned for its rich ancient Roman past, and referred to as the “Rome of the North” or “Second Rome” as it has impressive Roman relics and nine UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Join a guided tour of the city, including the old Roman amphitheater, Roman Baths and Basilica of Constantine. Alternatively, go in search of the secrets of the Porta Nigra Gate, dating back to 180 A.D., on a tour that takes you back to a time when Rome ruled the world from the Emperor’s seat in Trier. You also have the choice of a hike high above Trier to Petrisberg. Later in the day, sail to Bernkastel, Walk through its colorful Old Town center and past many medieval and Renaissance buildings on a guided tour that also includes a winery visit and tasting. Cycling enthusiasts can choose to join a bike tour and hikers can opt to trek up to the ruins of Landshut Castle, which dates all the way back to the 9th century. (B,L,D)

Day 6 ALKEN - RUDESHEIM

Head to fairytale Cochem and visit the Reichsburg Castle followed by a walking tour. As an alternative, visit one of Europe's oldest working mustard mills where you will sample Cochem's famous mustard. You may also opt to hike to Reichsburg Castle and enjoy a visit or take a walking tour through nearby Koblenz. Later in the day, set sail for Rudesheim, where you can visit Siegfried's Mechanical Musical Instrument Museum, or enjoy the town's iconic Rudesheimer coffee, served ceremoniously with whipped cream and brandy. Day 7 RÜDESHEIM

Drink up the stunning views by soaring high above the vineyards with a gondola ride to the Niederwalddenkmal Statue or allow yourself to be treated to a wine tasting. For a more active adventure, hike through the town's beautiful vineyards or join a guided bike tour of the scenic Rheingau wine region. As an alternative, head to the confluence of the Rhine and Main Rivers to Mainz, where you'll enjoy a walking tour of its Old Town, brimming with quaint narrow streets, Baroque churches and half-timbered houses. You'll also have a chance to visit the Collegiate Church of St. Stephan, best known for its blue Chagall windows. (B,L,D)

Bamberg’s medieval and Baroque architecture has withstood the test of time and, as such, became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Join a guided walking tour of this medieval gem where you’ll see its cathedral, Old Town Hall and elegant old mansions, and afterwards, indulge in the town’s famous smoked beer, Rauchbier. Or, indulge in the culinary specialties of Bamberg, including licorice root, Hornla pastries, traditional German sausage and smoked beer. As a more invigorating alternative, pedal from Eltmann to Bamberg, meeting the ship there later in the day. (B,L,D)

Day 11 NUREMBERG - DISEMBARKATION - PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC

Disembark the ship in Nuremberg and enjoy a city tour before transferring to Prague, where you will check into your hotel. (B)
